Thanks to the generosity of E2M Companies, the improvements to the parking lot next to the Katy Trail just south of Knox Street is almost done. The contractor is in the process of adding the wheel stops, lane striping and landscaping. Expect to see all the work done in the next couple of weeks during normal work hours (7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.).
In the meantime, you can use the lot after hours. And let us know what you think of the improvements.

Why does the southern most sidewalk have steps? This makes it non ADA compliant, costs more to build, increases maintenance, and greatly increases the chance of accidents.
The ADA access is on the northern side of the lot, where there will be a reserved parking space for those who need ADA accessibility. The other paths are for pedestrians.
Having a parking lot with FULL ADA access means more then just handicapped people can use the walks. Like those people with wheels: roller bladers, bicyclists, strollers...
And those other paths do not have clear access into the parking lot proper. Leaving a gap equal in width to that of the sidewalk between the car parking allows pedestrians to not snake between cars and car owners not to have their mirrors bumped into.
Now what about addressing the increased costs? Those of actual construction, the maintainance of differing height surfaces, and the increased liability?
